Christmas Mouse Days 16-18

On the 16th, Monty was found sitting in one of the boys' lunch kits, nibbling a cracker. His note encouraged them to plan their Christmas gifts for their teachers.

We browsed Pinterest together that night, and over the next few days put together the gifts the boys picked out. Bug chose a foot spa kit, packed with fuzzy socks, pumice stone, foot soak, washcloth, and lotion.

Boo picked a crochet Mug Hug with hot chocolate, candy canes, and cookies.

We gave these to the teachers on their last school day before the holidays.

On the 17th, Monty invaded mom's paint supplies!

He brought them each a small canvas and an assignment...

So we browsed Pinterest again for ideas, and that night, we did some handprint art.

I helped Bean and Hoot with theirs, but the older two did it all on their own!

On the 18th, Monty showed up by the stable dressed a little differently...

Monty knows we're big Doctor Who fans around here. The boys LOVED this one.

Some cardboard, a box cutter, hot glue, paint, and some pictures printed from Google (windows and signs), and some brown ribbon tied into a bow tie. It was a quick throw together, so it's kinda shoddy, but the boys had a blast playing with Monty and the TARDIS all day long!

Christmas Mouse Days 13 - 15

On the 13th, Monty went downstairs and was practicing his gift-wrapping skills. He didn't label any of the gifts - they each chose one. They were little dollar store trinkets that broke after less than a day, but the boys loved them.

On the 14th day, Monty had a little accident while exploring the boys room...

On the 15th, he went exploring outside in the snow, and brought in some branches from the tree in our yard.

He showed us that we could make shapes and words out of them, so we did.

Christmas Mouse Days 8 to 12

Yeah, i'm behind. It's seems to be an inevitable and everlasting condition in the month of December. But here are the past five days!

On the 8th, the boys found Monty in the crib which, since Hoot is still sleeping in a bassinet in our room, is currently occupied by a few stuffed animals.

There were a few more than usual, and they had all gathered around to hear Monty read some Christmas stories.

On the 9th, the kids found Monty had made a pile of the books and climbed onto the side table. He was busy writing a story.

I realized the next morning that it didn't make any sense at all for the mouse to build a tower of books to help him climb up when he's been climbing up on things this whole time (i was SO tired!), but the kids liked it. They said it was a bus. Hahaha!

They were running late for school, so they never actually finished the story. Otherwise I would have posted it, but it's still kicking around and we'll do it together one of these days.

The next day they found him building "snowmen" on the kitchen counter!

Again, they had school that day, but i encouraged them to build snowmen on the playground at recess.

Then we found him sitting by the DVD player with a movie and a bowl of popcorn!

It wasn't a new movie, but when i put out all the Christmas DVDs i held this one back, knowing it's one we all enjoy together. So last night was our family movie night. We meant to have popcorn, but instead the day got away from me and we ended up having a late supper in front of the TV. The kids were okay with it.

This morning they had a really hard time finding Monty - until i mentioned that i heard some strange noises downstairs. Bug's eyes widened: "Maybe it was Monty!"

The squeals of delight made me smile. They were amazed and delighted to find Monty had set up a huge track in the play room. They screamed up at me "Mom! Mom! Come see what Monty did!", and they thought Monty riding in the freight car was hilarious!

I was up late doing this because i was so busy yesterday, but it was so worth it! They played trains with Monty for a while, then put him to bed and moved on to other games.

I've used up all the quick and easy ideas because of the busyness of the week, and i'm now getting into the ones that take time and preparation (like the train set). So now I have to make sure i prepare ahead of time for tomorrow.

Until next time!

Christmas Mouse Days 6 and 7

Another crazy day yesterday, so here i am doing two days again.

Friday morning, my kids found Monty nestled on the shelf next to the sugar bucket, wearing a Santa hat and bringing with him a pouch marked "magic seeds"

After school, we planted the seeds in a bowl of sugar.

While the kids were in bed, I made some sugar cookies "jelly roll" style, baking them with popsicle sticks in them. I took  out the "seeds" and stuck in the cookies. In the morning, the kids not only found Monty with his letter of the day, but a bowl of what they called "cookie trees"!

It had been a long day, so I chose a super simple assignment - this morning they got to hunt for candy canes.

I didn't take any pictures of them searching. My house is kind of a mess. haha!

Until next time!

Christmas Mouse Day 4 and 5

So, yesterday was busy and I didn't get to post. But I'll do both days today!

Yesterday morning, the boys found Monty on the table. He had obviously enjoyed the trees they made for him. He even smeared a little icing on his face! He was perusing the Sears Wishbook, and writing his Christmas list.

His note encouraged the boys to write their wish lists, and to think about what they want, and what they'd like to give.

The boys were a little disappointed that Monty didn't bring them anything, but it's still early in the game so they don't realize that Monty won't always bring them stuff, but will sometimes just assign them an activity.

Last night, after finally getting my fussy, teething baby girl to sleep at 11:30 and just about ready to conk out myself, my husband asks "do you need to do anything for Monty tonight?"

I'm so glad he's there to be my brain when my own is so tired! So i quickly raided the boys' rooms and set up a scene. This morning, they found a trail of dress up clothes leading all the way from the box in their room, out across the living room.

Monty and some of the other toys were playing on the rocking chair!

All the costumes were obviously too big for Monty, but i found a black strip of fabric they use as a headband and made him a ninja! The boys thought it was hilarious!

He'll be bringing them another "craft" or something tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Christmas Mouse Day 3

This morning we found Monty under the tree (we had just put it up last night). He was enjoying the decorations.

He also brought a fun project for the boys.

The "kit" included a box of sugar cones, a bag of coconut, a bag of skittles, and a tub of icing. They boys also wanted marshmallows, so i pulled those out of the cupboard.

We've had so much snow that we weren't able to get the kids to school, so we spent the morning making sugar trees.

Bug piled on the decorations...

Boo did too, while Bean preferred to eat most of them.

They had a lot of fun! They ate one each for a snack later, and we'll leave a few out for Monty tonight. He might just take a nibble or two...
